Our international organization has been connecting marketers since 1937.

The roots of the American Marketing Association can be traced to the early 1900s when the National Association of Teachers of Advertisers and American Marketing Society merged to bring together all marketers, across all specialties to collaborate and inspire one another.

The AMA was created from the merger of NAMT and AMS

 

First issue of Journal of Marketing

 


1940s

Membership surpasses 2,700

 


1950s

Membership surpasses 7,000

 


1960s

First issue of Journal of Marketing Research

 


1970s American Marketing Association

Membership surpasses 21,000

 


1980s

Ball State University collegiate chapter is founded.

 


1990s

Global presence expands

 


2000s American Marketing Association

AMA’s new Definition of Marketing focuses on delivering value to customers and customer relationships

 


2010s American Marketing Association
