The IndyAMA recently partnered with The Julian Center (www.juliancenter.org), the preeminent organization in Indianapolis that serves victims of domestic violence. We collected food at two of our events in 2013 to assist The Julian Center Food Pantry. We also provided the opportunity for Alex de Aguiar Reuter, the center’s Manager of Corporate Engagement, to speak about the organization at our December luncheon.
The partnership continued into 2014 and an opportunity arose for our members to make a direct contribution. The Julian Center holds an annual gala that is a major fundraiser. This year, their usual designer accepted a wonderful opportunity and was unable to help with the various pieces needed. Alex contacted Megan Miller, the IndyAMA’s Vice President of Community Relations and asked for help.
“Alex has been a great partner and we really wanted to help them out with their marketing needs so that their fundraiser could be a success,” said Megan.
Fortunately, someone was available. Fellow board member Chris Oler committed COLOR Marketing & Design to doing whatever The Julian Center needed, and on a short time line. The project concluded the first week in February. “We did similar work last year for PrimeLife Enrichment in Carmel,” Chris said. “That was more involved because we created original pieces. Alex just had us update The Julian Center’s material.”
It was right place, right time for COLOR, which donated about six hours of time and offered items for the gala auction as well. “We’ve been fortunate to have great service opportunities: Wernle Children’s Home, PrimeLife, and now The Julian Center. These are quality organizations,” added Chris, an IndyAMA member since 2011. “A lot of positive things have happened since we joined. This is another great example.”
“Opportunities are everywhere,” according to Megan. “Our members might not be aware how much their help is needed and appreciated.”
